Blessing of Hands
On April 22, 2009 during Laboratory Week the Alverno Phlebotomists at St. Margaret Mercy South participated in the Blessing of Hands ritual.
This special ceremony emphasizes the critical service role of our phlebotomists. Edie Downes of Pastoral Care compared phlebotomists to the first chair of the orchestra that starts every performance with the first note. Our phlebotomists start the diagnostic process with caring hands that reveal to the patients their loving hearts.
The Chairman of the Board of Alverno Clinical Laboratories, Tom Gryzbek, was present and spoke to the gathering emphasizing their importance and sharing greetings of love.
Special thanks go to Anne Marie Tokar, the Support Services Supervisor, who diligently worked on all the preparations.
The creative talents of Patty Szfranski captured the Alverno Theme “Be Kinder Than Required“ in a multi-colored mural.
Her work of art hangs in the Central Dispatch area of the Courier portal at the Central Laboratory in Hammond, Indiana.
This image reminds us to do something extra for our clients. The Courier Department is quite proud of its consistently high ratings in the area of courtesy and excellence in Customer Relations!
Each year Alverno Clinical Laboratories processes 1.8 million laboratory specimens. The Support Services Specialists add the human dimension to the ultra modern laboratory inter-face that makes possible the economies of scale that our hospitals count on to meet the demands of modern medicine.
Seen here is the newly designed area utilized by our Support Service Specialists to inter-act with the clients and who trouble shoot the daily quality checks that the health care process needs to assure quality customer service. When our clients need help, it is the Support Service Specialist who tracks down what they need.
A team of Alverno designers, utilizing the 'LEAN" principles of eliminating waste and unneeded steps in a process, worked on this new space from the ground up.
Greg Buss, Supervisor of Support Services reports: "The new design is a big improvement and enhances the expertise of our specialists ."
